This viewpoint uses ITIL as the base to compare other models against. The main divisions which comprise the ITIL best practices set include the following books:

  • Business Perspective - aims to familiarize management with the underlying components and architecture design of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure necessary to support their business processes and gain an understanding of Service Management standards and better practice.
  • Planning to Implement Service Management - helps Service Providers plan their implementation of Service Management best practice while at the same time helping the business to talk on level terms with the Service Provider.
  • Service Delivery - focuses on delivering IT services to IT customers through agreed-upon service levels. The book contains the following major processes:
    • Service Desk - considered a service function
    • Incident Management - restoring service resulting from an outage
    • Problem Management - resolving faults in the infrastructure
    • Change Management - Coordinating changes to the infratructure
    • Configuration Management - Recording the infrastructure and it's relationshipsRelease Management - moving infratructure from development to production
